When it comes to asbestos waste disposal in Queensland, the regulations are clear — but compliance isn’t always easy. For businesses managing construction, demolition or maintenance waste, the challenge isn’t just identifying asbestos, but handling and transporting it legally.
Whether you manage a single site or a national portfolio, improper asbestos handling can result in significant fines, site contamination, and serious risk to workers and the public. At Resource Enviro, we work with clients to remove the complexity — and the liability — from managing hazardous waste across their operations.
What the Law Says
Under Queensland regulations, any asbestos waste load over 175 kg requires an Environmental Authority (EA) to transport, regardless of whether the generator is a business or an individual.
For non-commercial waste (e.g. DIY jobs), the threshold is slightly higher — 250 kg or more triggers mandatory waste tracking, with online documentation lodged through the Queensland Waste Tracking system.
All commercial operators, however, must track every quantity of asbestos waste, regardless of weight.
Why It Matters for Waste Contracts
In practice, many organisations — particularly those with multiple waste providers or decentralised operations — may be unknowingly breaching these rules.
This often occurs when:
- Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are mixed into general waste or demolition debris
- Unlicensed subcontractors transport bonded asbestos off site
- Waste tracking documentation is incomplete or not submitted
- Site managers are unaware of disposal thresholds or licensing requirements
These compliance gaps are common — and they carry real consequences, including fines, project delays or environmental liability, not to mention the long-term health risks to staff, contractors and the public.
How Resource Enviro Helps
At Resource Enviro, we support organisations across Queensland with compliant, consolidated hazardous waste solutions — including licensed asbestos transport.
We work with fully EPA-licensed carriers and provide:
- End-to-end waste tracking and documentation
- Pre-collection coordination and site education
- Consistent reporting across multi-site contracts
- Integration of asbestos handling into your broader waste strategy
For many of our clients, this means removing the need to coordinate ad hoc collections, manage third-party operators, or risk non-compliant disposal on busy sites.
Don’t Let Asbestos Disrupt Your Operations
Asbestos is one of Australia’s most heavily regulated waste streams — and for good reason. But with the right systems and partners in place, it doesn’t need to be a barrier to safe, efficient project delivery.
If your current waste services don’t include licensed asbestos transport — or if your teams aren’t sure what’s allowed — it’s time to review your arrangements.
