Magazine Recycling: What You Need to Know
Magazines are typically made from glossy, coated paper that is recyclable – provided it’s clean and free of plastic wrapping or promotional inserts. They are accepted in most kerbside recycling bins and can be reprocessed into new paper products.
Contaminated or laminated materials, however, must be kept out of the recycling stream.
Recycling tips for magazines
Remove any plastic film wrap or stickers before recycling. Avoid recycling damp or food-stained magazines, as these reduce the quality of recovered paper fibres. Glossy pages themselves are fine – modern recycling systems are equipped to handle coated paper stock.
Magazine recycling outcomes
Recycled magazines can become newspaper, cardboard, tissue or insulation. Recycling reduces reliance on virgin wood pulp, saves water and energy, and extends the life of paper resources in the circular economy.
